A soggy finish...

The final weekend of racing in the Warsash Spring Series was sadly cancelled due to strong winds and utterly miserable conditions (so no-one was too disappointed!).

By the end of the series, the teams had completed 6 inshore races in a complete variety of conditions. The first few weeks saw very light winds and the emphasis was on tactical racing, then after Easter the teams saw more physically challenging conditions, with stronger winds upto 25 knots. So the series has provided plenty of learning opportunities!

At the end of the series, Tim Thubron & Mike Martin and team on Sailing Logic's Reflex 38 'Visit Malta Puma' finished in 3rd place, just 1.5 points behind 2nd place!

In week 2, the team had suspected they were over the start line, but given the light winds they knew that if they turned back they’d never catch up, so they took the chance and carried on. Sadly it turned out that they were OCS, so they were heavily penalised and effectively finished last. Whilst this result ultimately was the discard (each team’s single worst score isn’t included in the total) those few seconds on that start line may have changed the overall result!

The team also squeezed in a trip to France to race in the competitive Spi Ouest Regatta over Easter, departing immediately after racing one week and returning just in time for more racing just after Easter. They were exhausted but still achieved a fantastic 3rd place that week! A great result Puma – well done team!

2nd place in the series was taken by Winston – a new Beneteau First 40, crewed almost entirely by previous Sailing Logic clients. It’s fantastic to see that the Sailing Logic mission of getting more people out racing is clearly working!!

Jaguar Logic under the command of Peter Burwood and mate Fi Walker finished 7th. A team of mainly new racers, they had some fantastic results against some tough competition, so an excellent result for them.

Our Introduction to Racing course for racing-newbies on Addiction went really well – and on both weekends, the team finished mid-fleet – a fantastic achievement for first time racers! Many of these crews have already been back to race again already, so we hope the racing bug has got them!

With the Spring Series now completed, it’s time to start the offshore racing season!  Places available on most events still – so please contact us if you’d like to join in.
