Visit Malta Puma

At 7pm BST, Visit Malta Puma called Sailing Logic HQ to inform us that they have made a decision to turn round and head to Great Yarmouth to effect repairs to the alternator (part of the engine).

At this time, Puma’s crew are well, and there are no other problems onboard. The decision to turn back for Great Yarmouth was made due to the weather conditions and sea state the yachts are experiencing at this present time. The journey will take approx. 8 hours. On arriving in Great Yarmouth the yacht will moor to a buoy and try to repair the alternator and then return to the race.

At this point, the yacht has not retired and it is their intention to carry on racing when they can. Under race rules, the yacht is not allowed to accept outside assistance, and then return to the race so any repairs they make, have to be done by themselves with the equipment they already have onboard.

The RORC Race office has been informed and we wish god speed to the yacht and her crew and wish them well in their attempts to rejoin this most gruelling of races.

As soon as we have any further details we will send out another blog.
