Hydrocarbon Logic going great guns at Heineken Regatta
After the great news on Friday of Hydrocarbon’s first place in the Round the Island Race, we have been eagerly awaiting the results of Saturday’s 2 races with great anticipation. Can Hydrocarbon keep up their winning streak and leave their competitors in their wake is the big question!
Well, the first of Saturdays 2 races was a windward/leeward around the buoys off the south coast of St. Maarten. A light easterly breeze of 8-10 knots greeted the fleet as they surged across the start line, only for the air pressure to build and with it the breeze to 15 knots, ideal for Hydrocarbon to get her skirts moving. However, the racing was extremely challenging as the breeze kept coming an gonging forcing the Race Committee to shorten a number of the class courses. However, Hydrocarbon managed to stay quick, and came in with a 3rd on this first 45 minute race.
With the cobwebs well and truly been blown away, the afternoons racing was absolutely perfect – blue skies, crystal clear seas, spinnakers up heading towards Basse Terre and then into the Anguilla Channel. After almost 4 and half hours of racing Hydrocarbon crossed the finish line 2nd by approx. 7 minutes, but beat their rivals Passion 4 C into by over 2 minutes once the handicap has been applied –another win for Hydrocarbon – Brilliant!
This leave our yachts and its crew leading class by 4 points going into Sunday’s last day of racing, with everything to play for. We are keeping everything crossed for a great result ....go Hydrocarbon go!!
