Cowes Week 2011 has seen plenty of drama so far this week already - and not just the racing...
On the racing front, Visit Malta Puma has secured 9th,12th and 10th place finishes in IRC2, resulting in an 8th place positon overall, with 4 days still to go. The crew are loving the competitive sailing and also the apres-sail entertainment on shore!
Jaguar Logic also in IRC2 had a training day on Friday 5th August and secured a 14th place finish in their first race. In windier conditions on the Sunday and under the guidance of Tim Thubron, one of our top skippers, the team raced their hearts out and took an amazing 3rd place - great effort team!!
Lion Logic, our other Cowes Weekend race team, were in IRC 3 and acheived mid-fleet positions on both days - again, great results for a scratch crew - some of whom had never raced before!
But the racing has provided only part of the interest, Sunday's highlights included a yacht which failed to notice/avoid a 250m bright-orange super-tanker creeping up the Solent which resulted in a collision. Luckily the tanker was going slowly and remarkably no-one was injured - but the yacht was dismasted. The video footage on the BBC website is quite spectacular.
After their racing glory, Jaguar Logic was back out on the water on Monday playing host to a Corporate Spectator Day. The guests got slightly closer to the action than they expected when they rescued the crew of a sinking boat, and took all three crew to safety ahsore!
Further action is always provided by the Extreme Sailing Series - with several dramtic capsizings, and one poor boat was towed in on Monday evening - without a mast!
It's not surprising Cowes Week attracts over 100,000 spectators each year!
Visit Malta Puma are racing all week and we have more Cowes Week Corporate Days sailing and racing on Jaguar Logic later in the week. Click here if you'd like to register your interest to join us next year!
