All round the rock, heading home!
After the wild and bumpy Monday night, and the struggles of fickle and fluky winds yesterday, all the 7 Sailing Logic yachts are round the Fastnet Rock and heading home!
Jaguar Logic was the biggest casualty yesterday, after sailing North to find breeze and then getting stuck in a wind hole for over 5 hours before they finally got going again. We estimate them to have lost up to 15 places. However they were not alone in that tactic. Earlier, Visit Malta Puma had done a very similar thing, but managed to turn towards the Fastnet Rock in time to catch some breeze whereas Jaguar was not as lucky – what a difference a couple of hours makes. However,. I know Jaguar have been working very hard during the night and are trying not to claw back the miles bit by bit.
Quokka also have been trimming their little socks off and have overhauled Vitaris, and are now trying to get the gap between them as large as possible. However, drama behind them.... the next 4 yachts have caught up some mileage on these 2 yachts meaning that on handicap, Quokka has fallen down the leader board a little, due to their larger handicap. There is still all to play for however, and every mile now until the finish will be sailed as competitively as possible, and tactics will surely play a big part in where Quokka will place herself – will she stay inshore after passing the Scilly Isles sailing the shortest route, or stay offshore hoping for more breeze and tide.
Lancelot Logic has continued to sail well after her brave and successful tactic yesterday of sailing below the rhumb line searching for wind. They are currently only 8 miles behind Visit Malta Puma, who in turn have had a great night also. Lancelot is currently lying 17th and Visit Malta Puma 10th. It is always interesting to note that most yachts ahead of Visit Malta Puma, apart from Quokka, are sailed by teams who sail together regularly, or those who sail professionally. All of our crew take time out from their daily life to train and compete to their best ability, and it’s their dogged determination which sees them succeed. Puma are the elading reflex 38 in the race at the moment.
Addiction Logic have also had a good night, consolidating their position in 30th place, with friends on Trustmarque Playing Around not far ahead of them now, they will be skipper Peter’s next target.
Profile Logic have also sailed well, and find themselves sandwiched between 2 other Reflex 38’s, Leopard Clipper and Panther, sister shops to our own Puma and Jaguar. Interceptor Logic who also found themselves looking at the Irish coastline last night also have done well, and are tracking Jaguar Logic in 43rd place.
