Rolex Fastnet Race - Day 5 - early Report

Lancelot Logic Retirement

Overnight, Lancelot Logic, our First 40, had to make a dash to land as one of her crew members became ill.

Alice McMillan, a stalwart of Sailing Logic offshore racing campaigns, was taken ill shortly after dinner yesterday evening and after consulting with Falmouth Coastguard and a Doctor, it was decided that Alice need to seek medical attention. The yacht diverted out of the race, and headed to the nearest landfall, which was Newlyn, close to Mousehole in Cornwall. After over 4 hours of motoring, the yacht was met by paramedics and the Coastguard and Alice was taken ashore for assessment. After an hour, the medics were happy for Alice to return to the yacht, and make her way to Plymouth. However, the crew made a collective decision to retire from racing, and motor along to Plymouth today, and we expect them in at Sutton Harbour late this afternoon.

We wish Alice all the best and will be waiting for her on the dockside to welcome her and the rest of the crew in.

Latest news on our first finisher, Quokka is making slow but steady progress and has less than 5 miles to go now at 0630 BST.... we will be on the quayside waiting with cold beers and bacon sandwiches!
