Today saw the arrival of our first Sailing Logic boats in Plymouth. After four days at sea, Quokka 8 skippered by Philippe Falle and Visit Malta Puma skippered by Tim Thubron finished in 5th and 10th place in IRC2 respectively.
First to arrive was Quokka 8 amidst a torrential downpour where the shore team looked as wet and bedraggled as those who had been around the Fastnet Rock and back! The rain did not dampen any spirits however and the crew of Quokka 8 celebrated their line honours, first in class over the water – a fantastic achievement. The team had worked incredibly hard making the decision to abandon their watches and called for everyone on the rail throughout the night. It was enough to finish first in class but their handicap put them in 5th at the final calculation.
Five hours later brought us the arrival of our lively Visit Malta Puma team, bedecked with new (clean) bright red ‘Team Slick’ T-Shirts and a celebratory spirit they really showed everyone how to celebrate. The whole of Sutton Harbour stopped to watch the pontoon party and most of the Quokka crew joined in too – a great atmosphere to end a classic Rolex Fastnet Race for the crew.
Spare a thought for our four boats out on the water still racing. The wind has shut down out there and every boat is really struggling to make any progress towards the finish and were even going backwards with the outgoing tide for a short while. Addiction Logic has just 6 miles to go and the finish line in sight but with just one knot of boat speed they could still be out there for some hours yet. Jaguar Logic, Profile Logic and Interceptor Logic all have approximately 20 miles still to go so have an even bigger battle still to fight. The forecast is for the breeze to drop even more throughout the evening so we need everyone out there to pray for some wind.
Retired, Lancelot Logic are motoring towards Plymouth and should be with us within a few hours. This team have worked so hard and must have very mixed feelings on their approach to the finish line. We will be giving them a welcome as big as any finishing boat so if you’re around in Plymouth come on down and give them a cheer. They should be along side in the marina around 6pm.
More updates to come as we have more news....
