The Fastnet was a truly epic event - for the competitors, spectators and the shore-support team alike! The race was an interesting mix of strong winds to periods of near flat calm, to test the crews patience as well as physical strength! All the yachts reported dolphins accompanying them for much of the race - a delilghtful sight which motivates and inspires even the most cold and tired sailor.
Our deepest regrets go to those who couldn't finish the race - from boat damage or sick crew, a painful disappointment to anyone after months of training and preparation.
But particular congratulations go to Philippe Falle and Peter Rutter on Quokka - and the incredibly dedicated crew who sat on the rail all night, every night. Such determination and race-winning mindset truly deserves line hounours, the Schoolboat Trophy and second in IRC2A - well done guys and girls!
For the spectators, the race tracker provided mainly useful updates (as well as a few scares) and most people reported that family and friends were glued to the tracker and Allie's updates, and were pleased when the yachts all returned safely so they could resume their normal lives again! Sutton harbour was also a spectator's paradise the following morning as the clean-up operation began - with flags, banners and kit everywhere!
Katie and Allie managed to organise the 7 boat, 83 crew Sailing Logic family perfectly. 996 'Look What We Found' delicious hot meals were provided and eaten, over 10,000 email blogs issued, 3 group dinners arranged, endless small details taken care off and perhaps one of the most impartant - was providing the cold beers and the welcome at the end of the race! That's what makes sailing with Sailing Logic different to any other company - the family feel. Having 6 other boats to have a mini-race against, to swap stories with and who you know would always come to your aid, if required.
