FAQs

Sailing Logic

How do I apply to join Sailing Logic?
There is no application process. You simply book onto for the events you'd like to join. Contact us for availability and a booking form for your chosen event. If you're not sure what's right for you - we'd be happy to advise you.

What previous experience is required?
The crew on each racing event is usually a mix of experience levels with a maximum of 2 places for inexperienced or novice racers.   For our intermediate and advance race training courses we do require previous racing experience.
For those who are completely new to sailing, we recommend you start with the RYA Competent Crew course. For those with cruising experience but no racing experience, our Introduction To Racing course is the perfect conversion. The only other pre-requisite is enthusiasm and a passion for adventure!

I'm an experienced racer - is Sailing Logic still for me?
Absolutely! Racing with our top skippers provides great learning opportunties as well as competitive racing and we especially welcome experienced racers who can really add to our competitive edge. With Sailing Logic you know the event will be well organised with a top racing skipper. Leaving you free to just turn up and race!

Why should I sail with Sailing Logic?
Crews join us for many reasons - most tell us they love our professional yet friendly approach, that our skippers are fantastic and they learn so much every time they sail with us.  Sailing with Sailing Logic will build your knowldege and confidence.

Others have previous cruising experience and simply want to learn to race from the best!

We offer a friendly and welcoming environment, there's no shouty skippers and everyone is fully involved - we don't take passengers. And we're very sociable! There are so many reasons - but we're sure once you have sailed with us once, you'll be back for more!

Testimonials

I hear you have great socials - can I come along?
Of course! We hold a monthly social in London - see our Club Logic page for details of the next one, and if you're nervous, feel free to bring a friend. After each race event, many crews share their photos on facebook, stay in touch and have informal reunions of their own.

Before the Event

Can I book online?

You can however pay online using a bank-bank internet transfer. Our bank details are on teh booking form.

Where are the courses/events held?
Unless stated otherwise, most of our events start from our base at Port Hamble Marina, Hamble (nr Southampton). You will usually meet at our office, specific details will be provided on booking.

Where is  Port Hamble and how do I get there?

Port Hamble is in the centre of Hamble village - a thriving yachting village, just outside of Southampton. Use SO31 4PL for sat nav programming.
By car, follow the M3 or A3 to the M27 and exit at Junction 8. Follow the signs to Hamble. Pay & Display parking is available on site, although there is plenty of free parking on nearby roads.
By train there is a regular high-speed service from Waterloo to Southampton Central or Southampton Airport Parkway. We are approximately a 15-20 minute taxi ride from either station.

What insurance do I need?
Everyone sailing on a Sailing Logic course or event is covered by the boat's insurance for 3rd party liability and limited personal accident cover (ie death and permanent disablement).

However you should ensure that you have appropriate insurance to cover you for minor injuries, cancellations (where you choose to cancel) or loss of possesions whilst yacht racing. Some 'free' policies classify yacht racing as an extreme sport, so make sure you check you are covered.  If you are unsure, visit Topsail Insurance for a quote on their bespoke yachtsman policy.
