Race Development
Once you have some yacht racing experience, this 3-day
course will really help you hone your skills, learn how to
anticipate the next move, and give you a racing edge. Suitable for
both inshore and offshore racers, this course would be perfect for
anyone competing in Cowes Week, St Maarten Regatta or the
Fastnet
2013 Campaign.
Throughout the course you'll get to rotate roles to experience
the different positions and understand how they all work together.
There will be a big emphasis on race focus and the mindset
required to win races.
Each morning starts with classroom-based theory session, before
heading out onto the water to put what you've just covered into
practice! Then the day draws to a close with an evening debrief,
including video footage.
By the end of the course you will feel more
confident as a crew member, capable of helping to
drive a winning race performance!
The syllabus will make the most of the weather at the time, but
aims to cover:
- -
Perfecting spinnaker hoists and drops and mark roundings
- -
Upwind sail trim for speed and height after tacking /
rounding
- -
Establishing line bias, use of transits and starting
procedures
- -
Race focus and performance mindset
- -
Weight distribution on the boat for speed in different wind
conditions
- -
Key racing rules and strategy, race preparation and top 10
race winning tips!
-
- There is so much to learn that many people come back and do the
course again!
After completing this course, why not put your new skills into
practice in the Warsash Spring Series, IRC Nationals or
Cowes
Week.
