The RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Certificate is a recognition of
excellent skippering ability, sound knowledge of safety and
advanced navigation skills.
During the intensive five day prep course you will work hard on
boat handling techniques, pilotage, navigation and man over board.
There will also be a good amount of night time sailing to
familiarise yourself with the local waters and improve your
pilotage skills. This will help build your confidence and help
prepare your for the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Exam.
Each student will be examined by an external RYA Yachtmaster
Examiner who will step on board on Friday evening. You will be
assessed as you skipper the yacht on short passages and complete
various demonstrations of skippering techniques. As all of our
Instructors have been through these exams themselves they will be
able to prepare you appropriately so that you are relaxed and
confident on the day.
Before you join this course, please ensure that you have all the
completed all the pre-course
requirements, including holding a VHF license, First Aid &
Sea
Survival Certificates.
If you have insufficient mileage consider doing the RYA Coastal Skipper
Course first. Alternatively you may want to get some more
experience with one of our milebuilding or
delivery trips.
If you have no previous sailing experience, consider our Professional Yachtmaster
programme - a 17 week intensive course taking you from novice
to qualified professional!
