The 5-day RYA Day Skipper Theory course introduces the
aspiring skipper to the wide range of subjects needed to take a
cruising yacht to sea.
The Day Skipper Theory
syllabus includes a section on safety,
including emergency equipment, correct distress procedures and the
basic 'rules of the road'. Navigation is
another key area, where you will be taught the basics of chart
work, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, using
tide-tables and pilotage.
You will also learn how to prepare for a day sail - including
passage planning and
meteorology. On the successful completion of
the course you will receive an RYA Day Skipper Theory
certificate.

Format:
Our RYA Day Skipper Theory course is run in our dedicated,
newly refurbished classroom in Port Hamble Marina. Most
of our courses run Saturday - Wednesday, minimising time off work
required and can be combined with the Day Skipper Practical in a 9-day
course.

What is included:
Training
materials, practice charts and almanacs, instructor, dedicated
class room, pencil and rubber and light refreshments. RYA Day
Skipper Theory Certificate. Lunch isn't included but there are
cafe's on site and nearby shops. Please note there is a miminum of
3 course participants required.

After completing the Day
Skipper Theory Course you will be ready to go on the RYA Day Skipper Practical
Course to put all the skills you have learnt into
practice. You may want to consider gaining further experience with
a milebuilding trip.
