It is a well-proven fact that in an emergency at sea, people with good training are more likely to survive.
Yachting is generally an extremely safe sport and the majority of boat users will never need to use a life raft or the emergency services. Even with the best prepared boats things can go wrong and the chances of survival are greatly increased if you know how to use all the safety equipment that is available.
The practical session in a swimming pool demonstrating the effective use of a life raft is invaluable. You will experience first hand the difficulties of entering a liferaft whilst fully kitted out in foul weather clothing and lifejackets. You will also be taught many simple, but very effective techniques to greatly improve the chances of survival.
The Sea Survival course also covers preparation for survival, lifejackets, the use of flares, medical aspects of sea survival and search and rescue techniques.
This course is a must for anyone going to sea. It is the best RYA course available and may well save your life one day. The Sea Survival course also contributes to one of the modules of the ISAF/RYA Offshore Safety Course, which is a requirement for many offshore races.
