The RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Course is the beginning of the MCA ladder of examined qualifications, and upon successful completion demonstrates your competence to skipper a yacht on longer coastal cruises.
The 5-day prep week allows you to familiarise yourself with your yacht and crew and practice your boat handling and navigation, ahead of your RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal exam. Upon successfully passing the exam you will receive the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate of Competence (additional exam fee payable to the examiner).
You will join the yacht and crew in Port Hamble Marina at 7pm on the evening before the course, (e.g 7pm Sunday evening ready for a prompt start on Monday morning). The preparation time finishes at 4pm on the Friday and the examiner will step on board from 5pm. The exam will last 6-10 hours per candidate so you usually finish Saturday afternoon, occasionally later into the evening.
Please ensure you can demonstrate (in a log book):
*reduction applies to holders of the RYA Coastal Skipper certificate.
