RYA Yachtmaster Theory

The 6-day RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory course is an advanced navigation course for more experienced skippers.

Building on the Day Skipper Theory course it is highly recommended for anyone contemplating the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical exam.

The course syllabus focuses on advanced navigation including secondary ports, long-distance passage planning, navigation in restricted visibility, course shaping and pilotage. By the end of the course, you will have a better understanding of meteorology and how this may affect your passage as well as a detailed knowledge of the collision regulations and safety at sea.  

GPS has become a primary tool for navigation so modern electronic aids are an important part of the syllabus.

Format

Our RYA Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster Theory course is run in our dedicated classroom overlooking Hamble River in Port Hamble Marina as a 6-day course, Wednesday – Sunday, or join the split weekend option in January.

Prerequisites

The Yachtmaster Theory syllabus is quite extensive so you should ensure your theory knowledge is up to date to the level of Day Skipper Theory before the course begins. Our 1-day Day Skipper theory refresher course offers a perfect revision opportunity.
